Did You Know?

To reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death follow these ABCs of Safe Sleep.

SAFE SLEEP

ALONE

Keep Baby Close – Placing your baby to sleep in the same room where you sleep but not the same bed reduces the rate of SIUD/SIDS

BACK

Babies should be put to sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SUID/ SIDS. Avoid putting baby on his or her tummy or side during sleep or nap time.

It is safest for babies to be put to sleep in a crib with railings no more than 2 3/8” apart. The mattress should be firm and covered with a tight, fitted sheet.

If your baby does not have their own bed, please contact us for assistance getting a pack-n-play.

CRIB

Beware of hidden dangers!

Do not place pillows, blankets, toys, bumper pads, or stuffed animals in baby’s crib.

Try this instead!

For your baby’s comfort, you may use a blanket sleeper.

SAFE SPACE

Here are some things you can do to create a safe space for the baby in your life.

MAKE YOUR HOME A SMOKE FREE ZONE

Smoking around an infant increases their risk of SIDS. Avoid smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, or using illegal drugs around your baby. Do not allow others to smoke around your baby, either.

STAY ON SCHEDULE

Follow your baby’s health care provider’s guidance on regular check-ups and vaccines. there are also many resources online to help you stay up to date.

CONDUCT REGULAR INSPECTIONS

Regularly inspect your baby’s crib, car seat, highchair, pack-n-play, and swing for loose or broken parts. Check for recalls on these items and toys, which may have low-cost replacements available.

SOCIAL SUPPORT

Remember to take care of yourself!

Your health is important to your baby!

Take Time for Self Care

Eat well balanced meals, drink plenty of water, and find a sleep routine that works for you and baby.

Rally Your Troops

You are not alone. Don’t be afraid to ask trusted members of your family, church, and community for help.

Seek Lactation Support

Providing breastmilk to your baby reduces the risk of SUID/SIDS. Breastfeeding can be hard, but help is available.

Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”
